Palmer Cup: 1st Round Matches underway
UPDATE: First-round play has been
suspended due to wet weather. No match
made it through more than the 2nd hole. In
addition to postponing the matches to
Saturday morning, the event format will also
be amended with a round of singles following
tomorrow’s play.
WILMINGTON, Del. – First round four-ball
pairings for the 2013 Palmer Cup at
Wilmington
Country Club were announced at
Thursday's opening ceremony. The first match
of the Ryder Cup-style competition between
collegiate golfers will tee off at
7:30 a.m. (Click the link at the bottom of this
page for live scoring)
The opening match will feature Sean Dale and
Bobby Wyatt from the United States against
Europe’s Sebastian Cappelen and
Pontus Widegren. Game two will pit America’s
Patrick Rodgers and Justin Thomas versus
Greg
Eason and Ben Taylor. Alex
Carpenter and Cory Whitsett will battle Julien
Brun and Joel Stalter of Europe. Daniel Berger
and James Erkenbeck will face
Scott Fernandez and Pedro Figueiredo in the
fourth match. The final match will be
contested between Team USA’s Michael
Kim and Michael Weaver and Europe’s Gary
Hurley and Kevin Phelan.
Afternoon foursomes matches are scheduled
to
begin at 2:00 pm with pairings to be
determined.
The United States leads the all-time Palmer
Cup series 8-7-1.

ABOUT THE Palmer Cup
The annual Ryder Cup-style competition
features
top men and women collegiate players from the
United States
against their International counterparts.
Each team will be comprised of 12 men's and
12
women's golfers.
Day one will feature Mixed Four-Ball
competition, day
two will see Mixed
Foursomes in the morning and Four-Ball in the
afternoon, with 24 singles
matches on the final day.
