NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 23, 2013) -- Pro Garrett Willis is officially the 2013 SunTrust State Open Champion. This makes his second win in State Open history, with the other being in 2000. After falling to a tie during the round today with Jason Millard, Willis defeated Millard in the final hole to secure his victory.

Willis fired a third round of 72 (1 over par) to make his 54 hole total 207 (-6 under par). Jason Millard carded an even par 71 today to make his 54 hole total 208. The low Amateurs for the tournament were Blanton Farmer and Brendon Caballero who both shot a 1 under par, 212 for the whole tournament.

With the last hole being the deciding factor of the championship, it was quite a battle. Garrett Willis commented, “I had just birdied 2 out of the last 3 holes and had great momentum. The ball was in Millard’s court as to how the end would turn out.” “It feels amazing to be a second time champion; I had a great week from the start,” said Willis. Having never played at Gaylord Springs Golf Links he commented that the conditions were not easy, but that he thoroughly enjoyed the course and thought it was in excellent condition.
