Carolinas Senior Am: Grainger leads by 3
CHARLOTTE, NC - Second round results of the 28th North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Myers Park Country Club in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 (6517 yards, par 36-35—71, 70.9/130).

Jim Grainger of Charlotte, NC carded a second consecutive round of three-under par 68 (136 total) to take a three stroke lead over Russ Perry of Winston-Salem, NC and David Strawn of Charlotte, NC heading into the final round. Grainger finished in second place at last year’s championship losing in a playoff to Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC.

Russ Perry’s round of 68 included a sparkling six-under par 30 on his back nine (course front nine) with four birdies and an eagle on the final five holes. Besides Grainger, Strawn is the only other player to post consecutive under par rounds.

Six-time and defending champion Paul Simson stumbled in his round with a four-over 75 to find himself five shots off the lead.

The field was cut to the low 60 scores and ties for the final round. Cut line fell at 10-over par 152 with 61 players qualifying for Thursday’s final round.
