Kansas Mid-Am: Newman rallies for win
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 15, 2013) -- After round one, Wichita's Steve Newman was three shots off the pace from leader Pete Krsnich, who shot an opening round 1-under par 70.
Newman overcame that deficit in round two and held on to win the 25th Mid-Amateur Championship at Topeka Country Club. Newman posted a final round even par 71 to finish the championship at 2-over par 144.
A group of players including Tj Vilkanskas, Zac Burton, Kit Grove, Conrad Roberts, Corey Novascone and Pete Krsnich all finished one shot back with 3-over par 145 totals.
The championship is open to KGA golfers age 25 & older and features gross & net scoring within three age divisions (25 to 34, 35 to 49, 50 & over). Defending champion is Wichita's Aaron Sheaks.
