Texas wins Big 12 title for first time since '04
No. 3 Texas won the Big 12 Championship Wednesday at Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kan. This was the Longhorns’ fourth Big 12 Championship and first since 2004. Texas has claimed 43 conference championships since 1927.

Texas finished at 19-over 859 (290-281-288), four shots ahead of No. 12 Oklahoma State, which shot a final-round 286.

The Big 12 Championship, for The University of Texas and our athletic department, is a very big deal," Texas head coach John Fields said. "We don’t take it lightly. Maybe we’ve been guilty a couple of times of putting too much pressure on ourselves, but I thought the guys did a great job today and I’m thrilled for them and our program."

The victory was Texas' third consecutive win and fifth of the season. Four of Texas' five wins this season have come after Jordan Spieth turned pro in December.

Texas freshman Brandon Stone won the individual title, becoming the school's first medalist in seven years as he finished three shots ahead of Oklahoma State's Talor Gooch. Stone shot rounds of 70-67-73 to finish at even-par 210. Stone is No. 4 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. He also won the Carpet Capital Collegiate and Bayou City Collegiate.

"It means more to me that the team won," Stone said. "At the end of the week, having a Big 12 Championship and another ring in the cabinet is huge for both myself and the rest of the team."

Texas senior Cody Gribble finished third, his third top-5 finish in his past four starts. Sophomore Kramer Hickok tied for ninth in his Big 12 debut.
