Lakeway Invitational: Final Results
Thanks to Adam Leischke of The Hills Country Club for this report
AUSTIN, TX (March 12, 2006)--It took 2 playoff holes to decide the champion, but in the 3rd annual
Lakeway Invitational, the team from The Hills Country Club of Charles Young
and Eddie Pozemny beat Westlake High School golf coach Callen Nokes and Ed
Martinez of Lakeway to win the 2006 Lakeway Invitational with a -4 total
of 212. The 54-hole tournament was contested over Yaupon GC, The Hills
Signature Course, and Flintrock Falls, in wind swept conditions. Gene
Black and Jerry Jolley jumped out to the first-round lead at Yaupon with a
6-under 66, but Young and Podzemny fired a 5-under 67 on day 2 at The
Hills. As Black/Jolley struggled to a 4th-place finish on day 3, Martinez
and Nokes rallied with a 69 to catch Young and Podzemny at the end of
regulation, only to make bogey on the second playoff hole as Young and
Podzemny parred to win the championship. There were 128 players comprising
the strongest field yet for the young tournament.
