amateurgolf.com Diablo Vly Championship: Final Results
BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA (March 12, 2006) --Storm was the operative word today as players braved rain, hail, wind and low winter temperatures. Heavy overnight rain had some wondering if the final round of the Diablo Valley Amateur would actually be played.

But like Tiger's streak of consecutive cuts made, the amateurgolf.com record of never losing a round to rain is intact after five years. Once 7:00am rolled around, the wind kicked up and quickly dried the greens so that the tournament could get underway. Conditions were tough, however, as the rain and cold winds steadily worsened throughout the day. But we got it in, and a collective thank-you to all players for giving it a go. Hopefully your games will be tougher for it.

SENIOR DIVISION
Seniors finished in the best of the weather. Low of the day was Tom Lyons with 72 bringing him 4th place. Winner Rob Thompson who shot a steady 73 – 73 held off joint first round leader Bob Olds who posted 76 today. Olds tied for second with William Goodwin, both locals from Brentwood.

CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION
A lot of rain and the odd hailstorms did nothing to throw first round leader, Bob Niger off his game today. Although he quietly states "I really don't like playing in this kind of weather", no-one will believe him. He followed yesterday’s 3 under par 68 with a 72 to shoot 140 and win the tournament by 5 strokes from Matt Couch at 145. Dave Capel, who also played in the leading group scored 72-75 to finish in 3rd place with 147.

John Ramirez III equaled the low round today with 72, and moved himself 10 places up the leader board to finish tied 6th.

NET DIVISION
Local players walked away with the net division. Winner Mike Casey scored 69 – 73 to finish 142. 2nd place went to Sean Price of Discovery Bay with 146, and 3rd to another local Larry Fillmore with 148.
