Texas North Mid-Am: Lovell, Pruitt tied for lead

TROPHY CLUB, Texas (March 22, 2013) -- The 2013 North Mid-Amateur presented by UST Mamiya got underway today on the Hogan Course at Trophy Club CC in Trophy Club, TX. The field of 84 was tested by the surprisingly cold temperatures and winds that were constant throughout the day. Danny Lovell and Michael Pruitt both fired exceptional rounds of 71 to tie for the lead after day one.

Lovell made birdies on holes 1,3,11,15 and 16 to steady his round. Pruitt made only one bogey on the round along with 15 pars and 2 birdies on his way to a 71. David Reynolds and Jay Csipkes both posted 2 under on the back nine to finish with a 72 and a tie for third with Abbot Allen. Defending champion Mike Calef finished in a logjam for fifth posting 73 along with Clarke Kincaid and a host of others.

There are currently 27 players within 5 shots of the lead. Round 2 will begin Saturday morning at 8 a.m. off #1 and #10 tees. Scores and round 2 pairing information can be found by visiting www.txga.org.

ABOUT THE Texas North Mid-Amateur

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur golfers who are 25 years of age or older by the tournament start date and residing in the North Texas region as defined by the Texas PGA Sections (North of 31 degree parallel, Salado TX and north is break point). Applicants must have a certified USGA Handicap Index of 8.4 or less. Format: 54 holes Stroke Play. No Cut. Field limit: 84 players.
