Top seeds move on at Salinas City Amateur
SALINAS, Calif. (March 19, 2013) -- Top seed Drew Nelson is through the first two rounds of match play at the 2013 Salinas City Amateur at Salinas Fairways.

Nelson fired a 69 to lead all golfers in stroke-play qualifying and has continued his strong play with an opening-round, 5-and-3 victory over Jay Burlinson and a defeat of Caleb Carter in 21 holes to reach this weekend's quarterfinals.

No. 2 seed Sean Dyer is also into the quarterfinals. He knocked off Mike Gilliard, 4-and-2 in the opening round and beat George Schultz, 3-and-2 in the Round of 16.

Jeff Britton, the No. 4 seed and a regular on the amateurgolf.com circuit, reached Saturday's quarterfinals with a win over Louie Garcia, 3-and-2. He beat Jack Tardieu in the first round.

No. 3 Steve Donnely is through, too. he beat Nick Fowler 1 up and moved on again with a win over Bob Walker in 19 holes.

ABOUT THE Salinas City Match Play

NCGA Points event. Tournament runs over two weekends with qualifying the first day, then two matches each day with a 36-hole final match. Championship, Senior/Super Senior, Net, and High School Players flights. High School Players division is on the first of two weekends, Senior/Super Senior is on the second.
