AUSTIN, Texas (March 17, 2013) -- Alabama sophomore Justin Thomas won the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club at Statesboro, Ga. on Sunday for his second victory of the season. Thomas, last year’s Haskins Award winner as college golf’s player of the year, shot 9-under 207 (67-70-70) to finish three shots of Texas’ Brandon Stone, Golfweek's third-ranked player.

Thomas was coming off the worst finish of his college career, a T-39 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. He entered the Schenkel at No. 11 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. The victory was Thomas’ sixth in 20 collegiate starts. He is trying to become the first player since Phil Mickelson to win the Haskins Award in consecutive seasons.

Alabama, No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, won the Schenkel for its third victory of the season. The Crimson Tide finished 10 shots ahead of No. 4 Texas.

Alabama has won two of three starts this spring, and finished second at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters.

North Florida’s Sean Dale, the Jones Cup champion, and Alabama’s Bobby Wyatt finished third at 5 under par. Dale led No. 15 North Florida to a third-place finish in the team race; the Ospreys finished at 868, 20 shots behind Alabama.
