Texas South Four-Ball: Bosworth/Helmle win in playoff
PEARLAND, Texas (Feb. 24, 2013) -- The final round of the 2013 South Four-
Ball Championship, presented by Club Champion, came down to the wire at
Pearland’s Golfcrest Country Club. With two teams tied after the second
round at 11-under par 133, a playoff was needed to crown a new champion.
First round co-leaders Geoff Heller/Tim Lambrecht found themselves tied after
36 holes with the duo of Dennis Bosworth/Shaun Helmle. Heller/Lambrecht
shot rounds of 65 and 68 to tie the clubhouse leaders of Bosworth/Helmle
(69-64). Helmle’s tee shot on the par three 16th, the first playoff hole, came
to rest approximately four feet from the hole. After Heller and Lambrecht
missed their birdie attempts, Helmle calmly rolled in the birdie putt for the
Bosworth/Helmle charged up the leader board early in the final round with
nine birdies and a lone bogey. Making the turn on the front nine at 2-under
par 34, the team found their rhythm with back-to-back birdies on holes ten
and eleven. Helmle was able to record five birdies on the back nine. They
finished with 34-30—64 for their final round, which got them into the playoff.
Finishing two strokes back at 135 were the teams of Sanchez/McKeown and
Booher/Gill. Tied for fifth were the teams of Buddecke/Wade and
