KELLER and SEALY, TX (February 26)--The Texas Golf Association conducted its first two championships of the 2006 season, the North Regional Four Ball at Sky Creek Ranch in Keller, and the South Regional Four Ball at River Ridge Golf Club in Sealy.

Weather played a big role in each event as a cold front moved across the state. At Sky Creek Ranch, three inches of rain fell Saturday, postponing the first round and reducing the tournament to eighteen holes. At River Ridge, fog, lightning and heavy rain affected playing conditions but did allow the tournament to be completed on Sunday.

In the North, play was completed Sunday with two teams atop the leaderboard after rounds of 65, 7 under par. In a two-hole playoff, Joe Owen of Dallas and Stephen Love of Irving defeated Dru Fenimore of Dallas and Dan Dunkelberg of Ft. Worth, after Love struck his approach to five feet on the difficult 2nd and holed the putt. Matt Spicer and Hal Story finished in third at 67, with Mark Lindberg and Todd McGrew fourth at 70.

In the South, Trevor Hyde and Sean Westacott of Kerrville opened up a three shot lead after a sparkling opening round 63 (8-under), and followed it up with a 68 for an 11-under 131 to hold off defending champions David Pocknall of Katy and Tod Hensarling of Houston by two shots. Two teams shot a 5-under 66 on Sunday: Randy Sonnier of Kingwood and Jordan Hasbrouck of Spring, who finished third at 7-under 135, and Buzz Baker of Missouri City and Andy Cooper of The Woodlands, who finished solo fourth at 6-under 136. In the Senior Division, Mike Rice and Jerry Hudgins of Houston closed with a 70 for a 142 to overcome first-round leaders Doug Escue and Bob Smith.
