CALIFORNIA STATE AM QUALIFYING - NORTHERN CAL

NCGA NEWS (April 11, 2005 and April 18, 2005) -- Northern California qualifying for the 2005 CGA (State) Amateur Championship was expanded to two consecutive Mondays in April (11 and 18).

Three sites -- Eagle Ridge GC, Peach Tree GCC and Fountaingrove GC -- were played on April 11. The following Monday, qualifying was concluded at Turlock GCC, Blackhawk CC, The Olympic Club (Ocean) and Sunset Whitney CC.

Northern California players exempt from qualifying include: past champions Spencer Levin of Elk Grove, Casey Boyns of Pacific Grove and Darryl Donovan of Gilroy, quarterfinalists from the preceding year Spencer Levin, Casey Boyns, Buzz Peel of Delray Beach, Fla. (Caddy Club of Pebble Beach) and champions from the following tournaments: NCGA Amateur (Levin), NCGA Stroke Play (Scott Hardy of Scratch Players), NCGA Valley Amateur (Bob Niger of El Dorado Hills, NCGA Junior (Roberto Galletti of Vallejo), NCGA Master Division (Mark Gardner of Redlands) and NCGA Public Links (Gary Young of Gleaneagles). Also exempt is the top 10 from the previous year's NCGA points list: Levin, Boyns, Niger, Rick Reinsberg of Moraga, William Moore of Monterey Bay, Randy Haag of The Olympic Club and Terry Foreman of Antioch. New exemption criteria for 2005 extends to players who reached the round of 32 in the previous year's championship, as well as the Northern California High School Champion and the State Champion.

The championship will be held June 20-25 at Pebble Beach GL and Poppy Hills GC.
