MELBOURNE, Fla. – First round leaders in the FSGA Winter Series four-ball event at Baytree National Golf Links in Melbourne managed to stay in front and win their respective divisions after a two hour and five minute fog delay in the final round. Jimmy Key and Kim Schwencke won the 40-54 age division, AJ Kroeger and Art Green captured the 55-64 age division and Jim Maxfield and Ray Darmstadt came in first in the 65 and over age division.

In the 40-54 age division, Jimmy Key and Kim Schwencke outlasted the field to win by five strokes. Key, from Jupiter, and Schwencke, of Temple Terrace, led after the first round firing a 9-under par 63. After the fog delay, the pair shot 68 to secure the title with a 131 tournament total. Schwencke has had an excellent Series thus far taking first, third and fourth in three individual events. Bob Currey, of Jupiter, and Glen Davis, of Orlando, shared second place honors with the Tampa duo of Bill Moore and Frank Griffin. Each team posted a 136 tournament total.

AJ Kroeger, of Apopka, and Art Green, from Leesburg, recorded rounds of 66-68—134 to claim the 55-64 age division by two strokes. Two-time Senior Champion Joseph Cristillo, from Crystal River, and partner Michael Sanderson, of Homosassa, tied with Carey Watson, of Coral Springs, and Jim Stone, from Bradenton. Cristillo and Sanderson shot a 69-67 while Watson and Stone posted a pair of 68’s.

Jim Maxfield and Ray Darmstadt captured the 65 and over age division by seven strokes with a tournament total of 134. Maxfield, of Melbourne, and Darmstadt, of Cocoa Beach, who has already won two individual events this season, shot similar rounds of 67 for the title. Larre Barrett, of Homosassa, and Robert Martin, of Fort Lauderdale, shot consistent scores of 70-71 for second place while John Harrigan, of Boynton Beach, and Tracy Allen, of Winter Park, finished third with a 143 tournament total.

The 2005-2006 Winter Series events include eight competitions, five individual events and three four-ball events. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). There is only gross scoring (no net division). However, each age division is flighted after the first round. The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers of all levels to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
