Argentine Amateur: Match play underway
South Africa’s Drikus Bruyns comfortably advanced to the second round of the 117th Argentine Amateur Championship at the Pilar Golf Club near Buenos Aires on Thursday.

South Africa’s fourth ranked amateur thumped Teemu Tapani Toivonen from Finland 3&1 to set up a match against local favourite Jaime Lopez Ravarola in today’s second round.

Meanwhile the match between fifth ranked CJ du Plessis from Limpopo kept pace with Italy’s Giorgio de Filippi, but the Italian managed to clinch a 1-up victory at the 18th hole.

Canadian Garret Rank, who won the qualifier on Wednesday, also advanced after beating Frederico Bouquete from Argentina 2&1.

In addition to a large contingent of Argentine players, 10 countries are competing in the Argentine Amateur Championship, one the oldest national amateur golf championships and one of the premier amateur events on the global calendar.
