Argentine Amateur: Match play underway
South Africa’s Drikus Bruyns comfortably
advanced to the second round of the 117th
Argentine Amateur Championship at the Pilar
Golf Club near Buenos Aires on Thursday.
South Africa’s fourth ranked amateur
thumped Teemu Tapani Toivonen from Finland
3&1 to set up a match against local favourite
Jaime Lopez Ravarola in today’s second round.
Meanwhile the match between fifth
ranked CJ du Plessis from Limpopo kept pace
with Italy’s Giorgio de Filippi, but the Italian
managed to clinch a 1-up victory at the 18th
hole.
Canadian Garret Rank, who won the
qualifier on Wednesday, also advanced after
beating Frederico Bouquete from Argentina
2&1.
In addition to a large contingent of
Argentine players, 10 countries are competing
in the Argentine Amateur Championship, one
the oldest national amateur golf championships
and one of the premier amateur events on the
global calendar.
