CANBERRA, Australia (Oct. 26, 2012) -- Jacqui Morgan from Monash Country Club on Sydney’s northern beaches has won the 2012 Australian Women’s Senior Amateur Championship, defeating Sylvia Donohoe (Narooma Golf Club, NSW) 4&2 in the 18-hole Final.

In what were perfect conditions at Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club in Canberra, both players birdied the first hole which gave those watching a taste of the close contest to come. Morgan birdied the 4th hole to go 1up, before Donohoe won the 5th hole to bring the match back to square. Morgan won the 7th and 8th holes to go 2up before Donohoe won the 9th hole to leave Morgan 1up through nine holes.

The back nine commenced with Morgan winning holes 11 and 12 to go 3up. Donohoe won the 13th to bring the match back to 2up, before Morgan won the 15th to go back to 3up. Needing only to square the 16th hole for victory, Morgan made par to Donohoe’s bogey to win the title 4&2.

Morgan said “I feel really honoured to win this title, and relieved to have my name on the trophy alongside the likes of great NSW champions Heather Bleeck, Liz Cavill and Sylvia.”

It was a magnificent win for Morgan, and her first Australian title. It was also a case of sweet revenge for the Monash member who lost to Donohoe earlier in the year at the NSW Senior Amateur Championship. Donohoe was chasing her eighth Australian Senior title, but the fairytale was not to be in 2012.
