Atlanta Match Play: Quarterfinals set
JOHNS CREEK, Georgia (Oct. 5, 2012) --- Defending champion Brandon Nelson of Roswell won both his matches on Friday at the Atlanta Amateur Match Play Championship, and he now moves on to the quarterfinals set for Saturday morning at Rivermont Golf and Country Club. In the round of 32 to open up match play, Nelson defeated Blake Burnette of Atlanta, 2 and 1. He then beat David Brown of Atlanta, 4 and 2, in the round of 16. Nelson's next match will come in the quarterfinals when he takes on Tevis Upton of Acworth at 8:06 a.m.
The second quarterfinal match will be Tripp H'Doubler of Atlanta versus David Henion of Marietta at 8:14 a.m. Next up at 8:22 a.m. will be Jeff Belk of Marietta taking on Billy Mitchell of Roswell. The fourth quaterfinals match will feature David Noll, Jr., of Dalton and Justin Johnson of Canton at 8:30 a.m.
Following the four quarterfinal matches on Saturday morning will be a pair of semifinal matches in the afternoon at Rivermont Golf and Country Club.
Rivermont Golf and Country Club is playing to 7,112 yards and a par 72 for match play. The match play portion of the competition was preceded by 18-hole stroke play qualifying. The low 31 and defending champion advanced to match play. The field was open to male amateur golfers.
