3 tied for S. Carolina Mid-Am lead
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Oct. 5, 2012) -- After the first round of play in the SCGA Mid Amateur Championship at the Forest Lake Club, three players are tied atop the leaderboard with rounds of five under par 67. Chris Mitchell, Todd White and Tom Kennaday all hold a one shot lead over David Sligh.

Columbia’s Tom Kennaday had five birdies and an eagle on the par four 5th hole to shoot nines of 34-37. Todd White from Spartanburg also had an eagle on the 480 yard par five 13th along with three birdies to finish 35-32. Chris Mitchell used six birdies and a lone bogey on the final hole to fire 34-33.

Defending Champion, Josh Branyon shot a first round score of 74. For the day, 18 players managed to break par on the short but tight, tree lined fairways of Forest Lake.

Second round play will begin on Saturday morning beginning at 8.00 a.m.

The 2012 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship is being played on the par 72 ~ 6,444 yard Forest Lake Club course in Columbia, SC. The field consists of 120 individuals playing 54 holes of stroke play and will be cut to the low 60 and ties after the second round. The Mid-Amateur is one of 19 Major Championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association and is in its 31st year of existence.

What has become known as the "Working Man's" tournament, this Championship is for individuals 25 years of age and older. A 54 hole event that is cut to the low 60 and ties for the final round, the Mid Amateur Championship has become a true test for the true amateur golfer.
