Weekend Primer: Texas, Calif. home to key events
No. 11, Blue Course, Dallas Athletic Club
Another weekend means another full slate across the amateur game. Here are the key events we're keeping an eye on this weekend:
TEXAS
• Texas Mid-Amateur Championship: The Dallas Athletic Club's Blue Course will be the host of this amateurgolf.com Texas Rankings Points Event. First-round play began early Friday morning with play continuing Saturday and Sunday.
• Austin Senior City Championship: Austin hosts its senior city event at Lions Municipal Golf Course. Follow the event's progress starting Saturday morning.
• Fort Worth Senior Championship: Seniors in Fort Worth will also be battling for the city's top crown. Play begins at Meadowbrook Golf Course Saturday.
CALIFORNIA
• Lake County Match Play: Buckingham Golf and Country Club in Kelseyville, Calif. will play host.
• Mountain View City & Senior:: Shoreline Golf Links will be the site of this Northern California event.
• Thousand Oaks City Championship: The picturesque Los Robles Green Golf Course will host the event, which runs Saturday and Sunday.
• Chico City Championship: The quarterfinals will be played as the two-weekend event continues at Bidwell Park Golf Course.
FLORIDA
• The Palm Beach Mid-Am Match Play: At the Fazio Old Trail Course at Jonathan's Landing in Jupiter, the state's top mid-amateurs will do battle. The event kicks off Friday and concludes Sunday.
NEW YORK
• John R. Williams Invitational: The four-ball event, considered a Major of amateurgolf.com, is played at historic Oak Hill Country Club. The 54-hole two-man best-ball format began Thursday with the final round being played Saturday.
ABOUT THE Texas Mid-Amateur
Eligibility: Entries are open to male golfers
with a
USGA Handicap index of 8.4 or less, and who
are
25 years of age or older by the first day of
championship qualifying.
Format/Field Size: 54 holes of stroke play. At the
completion of 36 holes the field is cut to the low 54
players and ties. The field is limited to 132 players.
Mid-Master Recognition: In addition to the overall
champion, an award will be given to the low Mid-
Master finisher. (Mid-Master – any player 40+ years
of age)
