Burgess, Horton prevail at S. Carolina Sr. Better Ball
SANTEE, S.C. (Sept. 9, 2012) -- Jim Burgess of Columbia and Steve Horton of Moncks Corner survived a final round challenge from defending champions Bill and John Smunk to win the SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship.
Burgess and Horton recorded a steady round of even par 72 for a two day total of 6 under par 138 to secure the victory. The brothers Smunk finished at 5 under par 139 after a final round of 3 under par 69.
For Jim Burgess, this is his eighth overall SCGA championship win, but a first in the Senior Better Ball for him and partner Steve Horton. The 2012 SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship is one of 19 major championships conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association.
The 39th Annual event was played on the 6,413 yard, par 72 golf course at Santee Cooper Country Club in Santee, SC.
