Georgia Pub-Links: Mitchell, Morley-Stockton lead
ACWORTH, Georgia (Sept. 8, 2012) -- Billy Mitchell of Roswell, the two-time defending champion, shares the lead with Ryan Morley-Stockton of Woodstock at 2-under-par 69 after round one of the Georgia Public Links Championship. One stroke back from the co-leaders are John Hopper of Eatonton and Mark Sweeney of Monroe at 1-under-par 70. Sweeney won the Public Links Championship in 2006, while Mitchell looks to become the first player in event history to win back-to-back-to-back titles.
Three players are at even-par 71 through the first 18 holes at Cobblestone Golf Course, including Mike Heffner of Dallas, Scott Melton of Ringgold and Dan Rhoads of Flowery Branch.
Other flight leaders include Audley Knowles of Buford at 5-over-par 76 (first flight), Ladell Norton of Rome at 4-over-par 75 (second flight), Phil Henry of Kennesaw at 12-over-par 83 (third flight) and Michael Dean of Marietta at 9-over-par 80 (fourth flight).
Cobblestone Golf Course is playing to 6,656 yards and a par 71 for the Championship flight. The format is 36 holes of flighted stroke play and was open to male amateur golfers who are members of a GSGA Member Club that is open to public play. Entrants must not have held privileges since January 1, 2012,at any club that does not permit public play.
