Tennessee Sr.: Danny Green wins by one
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (Aug. 24, 2012) -- Danny Green of Jackson won the 42nd Annual Tennessee Senior Amateur Championship Friday at Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, TN by a single stoke over Tim Dinwiddie of Afton.

Green and Dinwiddie were co-leaders after round one of the championship and remained atop throughout. The two came into the day at 5-under par for the championship and it was a close race all day. Both men struggled on the opening nine with Green going out at 4-over par for the round and Dinwiddie at three. Each man would turn it around and after fourteen holes Dinwiddie was back to 4-under par for the championship while Green sat two back.

As Dinwiddie made pars at fifteen and sixteen, Green decided to throw in a couple of birdies to tie at 4-under par. After both men made par at the seventeenth, the final hole would decide the championship. Off the tee Green found the fairway and hit his approach shot to twenty feet in the center of the green. Dinwiddie unfortunately found a left fairway bunker and punched out short of the green. Playing his chip to about fifteen feet, Dinwiddie was left with a par putt to send it to a playoff, but it wasn’t meant to be. Green two-putted for his par to shoot 73 and claim the title of Tennessee Senior Amateur Champion.

In the Super Senior Division Ronnie Law lead wire to wire throughout the week. After his opening round of 2-under par 70, and a solid 1-under par 71 on day two, Law came into the final round with a five shot cushion over Mike Nixon. Nixon would challenge for the victory going out in 1-under par 35 to put the pressure on Law. Law would stumble early with a front side 40, but after Nixon’s double-bogey at the par-5 tenth Law was able to find a groove and play consistent golf on in. A 1-over par 37 on the back was all it took to grasp victory by two shots and claim the title of Tennessee Super Senior Amateur Champion.
