NCGA Match Play: Myers, Roberts share medalist honors
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Aug. 14, 2012) -- Jay Myers and Austin Roberts held the lead after Monday's first round of stroke play and they were sitting in the same position following Tuesday's completion of stroke play at the 2012 NCGA Match Play Championship.
Myers and Roberts fired identical second-round 3-over 75s to accompany equally-identical 6-under 66s and earn co-medalist honors at 3-under 141 after the two days of stroke play at Spyglass Hill.
Maverick McNealy was third, sitting two shots back at 1-under 143 while Ben Geyer is fourth.
Match play begins Wednesday with the top 32 players following stroke play moving on to the single-elimination bracket running through Friday.
ABOUT THE NCGA Match Play
The oldest of the NCGA’s major events, the Amateur
Match Play Championship, dates back to 1903 when
it
was first played at San Rafael GC. Varying formats
have
been used over the 100+ years of competition but
today
the tournament is 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying,
followed by a 32-person seeded match play bracket.
Pre-qualifying required for non-exempt players.
Players
must have a handicap index of 5.4 or less.
