West. Virginia Am: 3 tied atop leaderboard
WHITE SULFUR SPRINGS, W.V. (Aug. 1, 2012) -- The third round of the 93rd West Virginia Amateur concluded today, as three golfers are at 1-over-par for the lead.
Buckhannon’s Jeremy Rogers, Bridgeport’s Jay Woodward and Huntington’s Pat Carter are each tied for the number one position. After several lightning delays during yesterday’s round, play was suspended to this morning due to darkness. Five groups completed their second round this morning on The Greenbrier’s Old White TPC course.
The cut was made to low 40—players shooting 157 and above were able to move on to the final two rounds. Making an exciting jump during today’s round was Hurricane’s Brian Anania. The Marshall University golfer shot an amazing 6-under-par 66 on the resort’s Greenbrier course, making eagle on the fifth and 10th holes.
Five total players shot under par during today’s round on the 6,619-yard course. Tee times for tomorrow’s final round will begin at 8 a.m., with the final pairing group teeing off at 9:48. At the conclusion of the final round, the Champion will also learn of his special exemption into the 2013 Greenbrier Classic, a PGA Tour, FedEx Cup event. Each West Virginia Amateur Champion has received this special exemption since the tournament’s inception in 2010.
