Long Beach Open: Schauffele takes low am
LONG BEACH, Calif. (July 29, 2012) -- Xander Schauffele fired a second consecutive 69 to finish as the low amateur competitor at the 2012 Long Beach Open at El Dorado Park Golf Course Sunday.

Schauffele, an incoming sophomore at San Diego State by way of a transfer from Long Beach State opened the event with a pair of even-par 72s before turning it on during the weekend rounds.

He told the Long Beach Press Telegram, ""This was a really good way to step up and see where my game is at. ... It definitely helped with confidence."

Schauffele's effort put him in a tie for 44th.

Ronnald Monaco was second among amateurs, finishing one shot ahead of third place Nick Thomas.

The red-hot Hyun Seok Lim won the event, firing a 7-under 65 in the final round to win by three shots.

ABOUT THE Long Beach Open

Open to men professional golfers and 12 amateurs that have earned exemptions through the Long Beach Golf Festival’s qualification standards. Format is 72 holes of aggregate stroke play, with a 36-hole cut to the low 60 professionals and ties, as well as the low 6 amateurs and ties. If such a cut includes more than 70 professionals, there will also be a 54-hole cut.
