WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (July 17, 2012) -- Yesterday, Crawfordville’s Dave Williamson gained the one seed at the IGA Senior Match Play Championship at Ackerman Hills Golf Club, and today he proved tough to beat. Williamson played John Parker, from Velpen, in his morning match, finishing one up through 18 holes.

“I dodged some bullets with John’s good play,” said Williamson. “I just played steady and was able to shoot one-under par this morning,” he added.

In his afternoon match, Williamson faced Richmond’s Skip Runnels, who won this tournament back in ’08.

Like Williamson, Runnels also had a hole-in-one on the par 3, 13th hole during competition this week.

Williamson took an immediate lead this afternoon, starting off the match three up after four holes. He then, bogeyed 5 to Runnels’s par, and Runnels went on to birdie holes 8 and 9 to bring the match back to all square.

On 14 and 15, Runnels added two more bogeys to his scorecard, giving Williamson a two-up lead with three holes to play. With another bogey on 17, Williamson secured a three and one victory, and has advanced to the semi-finals.

“There’s a lot of great players here, some real legends,” said Williamson. “It would be a great privilege to make it to the finals and win it,” he added.

Williamson will play Sam Till, from Fort Wayne, tomorrow morning.

Also advancing to the semi-finals is Kent Frandsen, from Lebanon. He will take on Monticello’s Ron Carter.

The two players who win their morning matches will face one another in the afternoon.
