Team Nocar takes Mid-Atlantic Father-Son title
MYERSVILLE, Md. (July 3, 2012) -- David and Conner Nocar, from Chartwell Country Club, teamed for an 11-under-par 31-30--61, and won the 50th Father-Son championship of the Middle Atlantic Golf Association at steamy Musket Ridge Golf Club in Myersville, July 3.

The two divided the honors about evenly, although Conner, 18, highlighted the effort with an eagle-2 at the 319-yard dogleg 11th hole, driving the green and sinking an 8-foot putt. Overall, they finished with just 21 putts. David led with three front-nine birdies, and Conner, a Severna Park High School graduate who will enter Drexel University in the fall, dominated the back nine with the eagle and three birdies, but got help from his father, a former Maryland State Amateur champion and recent US Senior Open qualifier, who contributed two par-saving putts of between 15-20 feet.

With play over a 6,416-yard, par-72 course in the rolling Frederick County countryside, Gary and Gary Jr. Carpenter (30-34), from Crofton CC, and Doug and Brandon Luckett (33-31), River Creek/Baltimore CC, playing in the same group, tied for second with 64's in the 38-team field. Gary Jr. had five of his side's six front nine-birdies, and he added two on the back, while Brandon Luckett included eagles at the 491-yard sixth and the 474-yard 12th.

Three teams shared fourth at 65, including the 2010 champions Bill-Josh Apple, from Lansdowne. The others were George-Paul Mavrikes, Congressional CC, and John-Matthew Pipitone, Hunt Valley GC. George Mavrikes' round featured an eagle-2 at the 374-yard fifth. It was one of six on the day, as he joined Nocar, Luckett, Andrew Stein (No. 6), Lakewood CC, and Kyler Rose (No. 6), Holly Hills CC, in this department.

The tournament record is believed to be a 9-under-par 60 by Ed and Mike Ball, Manor CC, in 1982 at the Chevy Chase Club. David Nocar summed up his feelings about the triumph when he said, "I've been trying to win this thing for 35 years," first as the son with father David, and now as the father with Conner.
