Cone wins Maine Open Championship
MANCHESTER, Me. (June 20, 2012) -- Dustin Cone, the 2010 winner of the Charlie's Maine Open, became a repeat winner late on Wednesday afternoon when he prevailed in a playoff against Jim Lytle, a late entrant into the event.
Cone, who is originally from Vermont and now lives in Jensen Beach, Florida, made an even par four on the first hole at Augusta Country Club to take the win. Both players hit the first green in regulation, but Cone made his two-putt, while Lytle unfortunately made a three-putt.
Lytle did have the low round of the tournament, however, to earn his spot in the playoff, shooting a blistering 64 under brutally tough conditions at "Mini Monster" Augusta, combining that with his opening round of three-over 73. He'd been working on his putting emphatically during his three-day stay in Maine and just missed out on his chance at the record books. The second best round of the tournament was a pair of 66's by other top finishers.
John Elliot, who tied for third at 138 with Jason Parajackas and Kevin Roy was one of the players at 66, as was Kyle Gallo, the 1999 winner, who finished tied for seventh.
Jack Wyman, a former MGSA junior player now playing out of Portland Country Club, tied for Low Amateur in the tournament at 143, with Collin Brennan of North Andover, MA. Wyman was tied for low amateur with Peter Wright after both players shot 69 in the opening round.
In the Maine Pro Division, Samoset's Jeff Seavey was 144 to take home that trophy.

The MSGA looks forward to returning to Augusta next summer, not only for the Open, but also for the Maine Amateur Championship, scheduled for the second week in June.
A special commendation is in order for Augusta Superintendent/General Manager Chris Barnicoat and his crew for the incredible conditions exhibited at this championship event. Players, spectators and tournament officials all enjoyed two days of incredible golf in a championship atmosphere.
It's certain Dustin Cone will recall this as a truly memorable experience.
