Texas (TGA) North Regional Four Ball
FORT WORTH, TX (February 22, 2005)--The Texas Golf Association has awarded the title of North Regional Four Ball Champions to the team of Roger Marcincuk and Kevin Pedigo. The team of Eckardt / LeRoy was disqualified two days after the tournament ended when it was discovered Mr. Eckardt was ineligible.
Marcincuk and Pedigo both of TGA Member Club, Mira Vista played some excellent team golf coming down the stretch. The pair caught fire late in their round when Pedigo almost holed out his second shot on the difficult 17th hole. The kick in birdie ignited the team as they stepped to the 18th tee thinking they needed an eagle on the Par 5 18th for a chance to win. Marcincuk delivered with the shot of the tournament! His 3 wood approach from 235 yards into the teeth of the wind landed 3’ from the flagstick and rolled up the slope and back down to rest 12’ from the hole. With the tournament on the line, he then holed the pressure packed putt for the tournament lead and ultimately the Championship.
Three times finished tied for 2nd at 10 under par in the breezy but otherwise warm and excellent conditions. The teams of Randy Lance & David Ward, Matt Spicer & Hal Story, and Jeff Makohon & Bart Goodwin played well on Sunday with rounds of 65, 65, and 66 respectively.
Scores were surprisingly good from the rest of the field for the first event of the season. The top five teams got a head start on the Regional Player of The Year Points race heading into the Regional Amateur next month held at Pine Dunes Resort in Frankston.
The unique course layout of five par 5’s and five par 3’s made WaterChase an excellent venue for the team competition. The golf course played firm and fast and the greens were in great shape for the championship. WaterChase will also play host to an upcoming TGA State Amateur qualifier on April 26th.
