Summerland, B.C. (June 12, 2012)-Kevin
Carrigan of Victoria leads the field by one-
stroke after round two of the British Columbia
Golf Men's Mid-Amateur Championship being
hosted by Summerland Golf and Country Club.
Carrigan, a member of Royal Colwood Golf Club
and 2011 BC Amateur runner-up, struggled
early in his round with two bogeys on the
opening three holes before catching fire with 6
birdies and only one more bogey coming in en
route to a three-under par 69 and two-round
141 total.
When asked about his second round on the
6,656-yard par 72 Summerland G&CC, Carrigan
felt he played better golf during round one but
was not disappointed with the result.
"I feel like I played just as good if not better
yesterday," stated Carrigan. "The course was
a bit easier today without the wind blowing
around. The course is in great shape so it was
fun out there today."
Sitting only one off the overall pace is
Penticton resident Cory Hilditch who navigated
rainy conditions and tough pin-placements for
an impressive round of two-under par 70 and a
two round 142 total. Hilditch, a member of
Penticton Golf and Country Club, will be paired
in the final grouping with Carrigan and Greg
Koster of Courtenay who fired a two-under par
70, 143 total.
The Mid-Amateur division, featuring players
aged 25-39, has Carrigan leading the way,
followed by Hilditch and Travis Eggers of Fort
St. John who is two back of both the overall
Championship lead and the division lead. The
Lakepoint Golf and Country Club member
couldn't seem to get solid traction during
today's play with a round that featured five
birdies and five bogeys but still a respectable
even-par 72, 143 total.
The Master-40 division, which showcases men
aged 40 and older, has a tie atop its
leaderboard with Koster and Norm Bradley of
Kelowna. Bradley followed up an opening round
one-under par performance with a even-par
round of 72, 143 total. Both players are tied
for third in the overall individual Championship.
Sitting alone in third place for the Master-40
division is Greg Bismeyer of Pitt Meadows and a
BC Golf Public Players Club member out of Zone
3, Fraser Valley. Bismeyer is one-stroke back
of the division lead and three-strokes back of
the overall Championship lead after a two-
round total of 144.
The round-of-the-day goes to Jeremy Osborne
of Salmon Arm who scored a four-under par
68.
Running concurrently with the individual
Championship during the first two rounds was
the White/Haddrell Club Team Championship.
Two-man club teams were selected following
the second day of play to determine the club
with the lowest gross score. The teams were
selected based on clubs with two or more
competitors.
Thanks to an excellent day two score of one-
under par 71 by Victoria's Bryan Scott and
Carrigan's steady play, the team from Royal
Colwood Golf Club is the 2012 White Haddrell
Club Team Champion with a two day line of
148-140-288.
Final round tee times begin at 7:30am on the
first hole with the leaders set to tip-it-up at
11:33am.
