WAVERLY, Iowa (June 12, 2012) -- Matthew Walker and Amy Ihm have claimed the top honors at the state's most prestigious junior championships. Walker, of Ottumwa, followed up his opening round 69 with a 77 on day two, good enough for a two shot win over Dustin Atkinson of Ames. Atkinson shot a final round 73 which was the low round on Tuesday.
Ihm was in third after day one in the Girls 16-18 Division but posted a solid final round 77 to capture a one shot victory over Jessie Sindlinger of Charles City and Mackenzie Black of Independence.
Paige Van Dyk ran away with the Girls' 14-15 Age Division after shooting rounds of 77-75--152. Brooke Klosterman finished in second, posting a total of 174.
Clayton Larsen of Manchester bested Aaron Wirt of Des Moines by a single shot each day to win the Boys 14-15 Age Division. He posted a final round 79 to Wirt's final round 80 after edging him 76 to 77 on day one.
Nick Pittman, of Urbandale won the 11 & under Boys Division after shooting a 9-hole total of 39. Will Frazier of Clear Lake was the runner-up with a 46. In the 11 & under Girls Division Annika Patton fired a 52 to win by a single stroke over Britta Syder of Ames.
The 12 & 13 Girls Division, which plays 18 holes on day one only, had a tie at the top. Both MacKenzie Roberts of Cedar Falls and Amy Olberding of Cedar Rapids fired an 18-hole total of 109. Roberts captured the title on the first playoff hole. Jared Hoelzen of Burlington put up a very impressive 2-over 74 to win the 12-13 Boys Division by five over Caleb Peters of Johnston.
This is the second year the state's top junior amateur events are being held at the same site on the same dates. Centennial Oaks previously hosted the 2011 Iowa Mid-Amateur Championship and also hosted the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's National Championship..
