NEW ORLEANS, LA (June 7, 2012) — The weather was the big winner on Thursday at TPC Louisiana, with two suspensions of play leaving half the field still on the course at the end of the day at the Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship.

Myles Lewis of New Orleans led the 72 players that finished their first round by one shot after shooting a three-under par 69. Andrew Noto of Luling, Brandon Aydlett of Metairie, and Steve Luminais of Reserve were all one shot back with two-under par 70s. Eight players were another shot back, including Jack Lempke of Ruston, Max Sellers of Baton Rouge, Frank Briseno of Harahan, Dean Mijalis of Shreveport, Patrick Christovich of New Orleans, Patrick Blunt of Ruston, Blake Kelley of Mandeville, and T.C. Ford of Mandeville.

Those not completing their first round will re-start around between 7:30 and 8:00 AM on Friday, with second round play beginning on a three hour delay from the originally posted starting times.

Play was suspended midway through afternoon starting times, just after the 12:27 PM groups had played, with the field being forced to wait two and a half before play could re-start. The second suspension occurred at 5:00 PM.

The Pete Dye-designed TPC Louisiana course drew rave reviews from this field of the top amateur players in Louisiana, with greens rolling at 12 on the stimpmeter. This is the second time the site of the PGA Tour Zurich Classic has hosted the LGA’s marquee event in its short 10-year history, also having hosted this Championship in 2007. The course is playing to a par of 72 at approximately 6,900 yards. Once second round play is complete the field will be cut to the low 60 scorers and ties for the final two rounds.
