2012 Anderson Memorial Four Ball at Winged Foot Underway
MAMARONECK, New York (June 2, 2012) -- Match play continued at the Anderson Memorial Four Ball at Winged Foot on Saturday, and results are available by clicking on the link below.
Several matches went extra holes. 2005 US Mid-Amateur Champion Kevin Marsh and partner Giles Kibbe of the Floridian edged Max Christiana and Max Buckley of Westchester CC on the 21st hole and will play John Kemp and Mark Wharton in the first semi-final match.
In the other semi final match, the team of Two -time defending champ Parker Smith and Dan Crockett (The Country Club) will face Winged Foot members Gregory Rohlf and Jeff Putnam, who won in 2009. It should be an interesting match.
Tournament History (courtesy Links Magazine):
"John Anderson was a Renaissance man: a writer who covered Francis Ouimet’s victory in the 1913 Open a few weeks after finishing runner-up in the U.S. Amateur.
Anderson was only 49 when he died in 1933. Winged Foot members honored him by creating the Anderson Memorial, which quickly became the premier four-ball tournament in the world. Winners have included Deane Beman, Willie Turnesa, and Craig and Dick Harmon."
