Brian Helton captures Santa Barbara City title

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (May 28, 2012) -- Thanks to a final round 69 Brian Helton broke out of the logjam at the top of the leaderboard after round two to take the 53rd Santa Barbara City Championship.
Helton, who played golf for UC Santa Barbara in the late 90's and is a former pro, had a three round total of 207 (71-67-69) at the Santa Barbara Golf Club.
He finished up two strokes ahead of a trio at 209 that included San Marcos High golf coach David Sioria (73-66-70) and round two co-leaders Shane Lebow (68-70-71) and 2008 champion Brandon B. Gama (70-68-71.)
Two-time defending champion, Andrew Perez was not in the field of 80 players.

The tournament, held during Memorial Day
Weekend, is a 54-hole individual stroke
play
championship by flights, maximum
handicap 16.0 for men, 34.9 for women (women play
net competition only).
The field is cut after 36 holes to the low 30% plus ties.
