Women's Southern Amateur: Quarterfinals set
CHARLOTTE, NC (May 23, 2012) -- Rika Park, the 4th seed defeated Vanessa Koechli of Greer, to remain the lowest seed still in the field at the WSGA 2012 Amateur at Myers Park Country Club. Park dressed in her University of Miami orange and green had a tight match with Koechli dispatching her on the 18th hole 1-up.
Karli Heimbecker of Sanford, NC, the 9th seed, is North Carolina's hope to reclaim the trophy last won in 1995 by Brenda Corrie-Kuehn of Fletcher.
Collins Bradshaw of Columbia, SC finished her opponent off quickly 5 and 3 and will face Heimbecker in the first match of the day, Thursday.
Park will square against Daniela Lendl of Vero Beach, FL, who had to go to the 19th hole to beat Emily Wright.
Two Georgia gals will face off in the 3rd match in Kathryn Fowler of Americus and Emee Herbert of Johns Creek. Both won 3 and 2 to advance.
Allie Knight of Knoxville, TN will face Maia Schechter of Takoma, MD for the last match. Schechter's match went to 21 holes against 2011 WSGA Finalist Meagan Roberts of Ocean Springs, MS.
Stacey Adams of Asheville North Carolina holed-out on #5 with a six iron to win the hole against Marilyn Nolan-Johnson of Marietta, GA. That hole has given up two hole-in-ones this week with Lauren Cate making one, also with a six iron, in the practice round on Monday.
