Hayes leads Trans-Miss Senior
LA JOLLA, Calif. (May 22, 2012) -- Round one of the 2012 Trans-Mississippi Senior Championship is in the books at La Jolla Country Club. Presented by TaylorMade-Adidas Golf, the 54-hole stroke play championship is open to senior golfers age 55 & older and includes two age divisions.
Kavin Hayes, a member of the host club, broke a big log jam at the top of the leader board late in the day. Playing in the afternoon wave, Hayes turned in an even-par 72 under glorious weather conditions and claimed the first-round lead in the 54-hole event.
None of the championship division’s competitors broke par on the day. Six players shared second place after 1-over 73s.
Scottsdale, Ariz.’s Michael Mahoney was the only entrant Tuesday to break par. His 1-under 71 paced the super senior division. Three shots back is Mountain City, Texas’s Larry Walsh after a 74 and two more players were another two shots back.
The second round of the Trans Senior Championship is scheduled for Wednesday. The third and final round is set for Thursday in La Jolla.

The championship will be contested over 54 holes
of individual stroke play with three divisions:
Senior
(55+, max
handicap 6.0), Super Senior
(65+, max handicap 10.0) and Legends (70+, max
handicap
12.0).

member
of
Trans-Mississippi Golf Association member
club
(players may make an individual contribution of
$100
minimum to the Turf Scholarship Fund as part of the
entry process, in lieu of club membership).
