Vaughn medals at Women's Southern Amateur
Megan Vaughn
CHARLOTTE, NC (May 21, 2012) -- Beautiful weather and stellar conditions produced four subpar rounds in the WSGA 97th playing of its Amateur. Leading the way was University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Megan Vaughn. Vaughn's score card of five birdies and one lone bogey gave her a medalist honor with a 68. She will be the number one seed going into Tuesday's start of Match Play.
Another Arkansas golfer, Corinna Rees from Fayetteville followed Vaughn's lead with a 69. Rees had to eagle #17 by sinking a 32 foot putt to capture the number 2 seed. Rees is an alumni of the University of Arkansas golf team in Fayetteville; and a 2010 WSGA Amateur Finalist.
Two Florida girls round out the top four scores. Kailey Walsh of Boca Raton, shot a 70 followed by Rika Park of Carol Gables with a 71. Park is a native of Japan playing for the University of Miami.
Carolyn Creekmore of Dallas, TX shot a 74 to steal the Senior medalist title from Charlotte's own Patty Moore by 2 shots. Creekmore was WSGA Finalist in 2004 and the Senior Champion in 2008.
Evelyn Dole of Raleigh, NC will be taking home the Junior medal with her 3 over round of 75.
