Bearrie, Hickman in command at Texas Four-Ball
LUFKIN, Texas (May 19, 2012) -- Another beautiful day welcomed the players at the 2012 State Four-Ball Championship which is being held at Crown Colony Country Club. Though the course is not playing incredibly long this week, the presence of wind during the second round presented a challenge the players did not have to face during Friday’s first round.

Defending champions, John Bearrie and Aaron Hickman, did not let the wind cool them off as they caught fire in the second round and now hold a two shot lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.

After making a birdie on the par 4, second hole, Bearrie/Hickman rocketed up the leaderboard carding five straight birdies on holes six through ten. Hickman then added one last birdie on the par five, thirteenth, to secure a second round total of seven under par, 65, giving the team a two day total of ten under par, 134. The team heads into tomorrow’s final round looking to defend last year’s victory and claim back to back State Four-Ball Championships.

Sitting two shots behind the leaders is the Crown Colony member team of John Kennedy and Gary Ivans. After finding trouble on the par 3, fourteenth, Ivans got the team back to even with a birdie on the sixteenth. Turning to the front nine, Kennedy and Ivans caught momentum as the team rattled off five birdies on their closing nine giving them their second straight round of four under par, 68, and a two day total of eight under par, 136.

Thirteen teams find themselves in red numbers heading into Sunday’s final round of the 2012 State Four-Ball Championship. Starting times begin at 8:00AM with the leaders set to tee off at 9:20AM.
