Semifinals set at Colorado Senior Match Play Championship
CASTLE ROCK, Col. (May 17, 2012) -- Defending champion David Delich defeated four-time champ -- and fellow Broadmoor Golf Club member -- John Olive Thursday afternoon to earn a spot in Friday's semifinals of the CGA Senior Match Play Championship at Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course in Castle Rock.

Delich will face fifth-seeded Ray Makloski of Pueblo Country Club in one semi, while the other will feature home course favorite and No. 3 seed Brent Timm of Red Hawk Ridge and 2005 winner Kelly Crone of Highlands Ranch Golf Club.

The four semifinalists won two matches each on Thursday, and two more matches await the finalists on Friday.

On Thursday, two-time champion Delich overcame Olive 2 and 1 after the quarterfinal match was all square through 12 holes.

In another matchup of two former champions, Crone beat Robert Polk of Colorado Golf Club with a birdie on the 19th hole.

In the other quarterfinals, Makloski defeated Mark Hirsch of Lone Tree Golf Club 1 up, and Timm cruised past Pat Bowe of CommonGround Golf Course 6 and 5.

In the Super-Senior Match Play for golfers 60 and older, Patrick Mooney of Colorado Golf Club and Bob Sims of Black Bear Golf Club will meet in Friday's final.

Mooney, who shot a 65 in Monday's stroke-play round, defeated Dave Comeau of Kennedy Golf Course 5 and 3 on Thursday. In the other semifinal, Sims beat William Peterson of Patty Jewett Golf Course 5 and 4.

ABOUT THE Colorado Senior Match Play

The CGA Senior Match Play Championship will be played using the PGA TOUR style match play Pod Play system at gross scoring. This means that any player who qualifies for the championship will be guaranteed at least three (3) matches in the championship. After each player is ranked, all players will be distributed into their pod with three (3) other players. This will yield 16 pods of four (4) players. Each player will play all three other players in their pod at least once. The winner of each pod will advance to the Round of 16 and a single elimination knockout round will be played for the duration of the championship. If there is a tie for the pod winner or knockout stage, a sudden death playoff will determine the winner.
