UST Sweeps 1st-2nd-3rd at Michelin Championship
FORT WORTH, Texas (October 17, 2005) — Graphite shafts by United Sports
Technologies® (UST) dominated the Michelin Championship at Las Vegas, claiming
first-, second- and third-place and delivering a sudden-death win for UST’s
all-new Frequency Filtered™ prototype putter shaft. While the second- and
third-place money positions were secured by UST’s award-winning Proforce
shafts, this year’s champion won the Michelin Championship in dramatic fashion
wielding a driver upgraded with a HTD® Counter Balance graphite shaft and
a putter featuring UST’s prototype Frequency Filtered™ putter shaft.
“UST produces several of the world’s most innovative high-performance
graphite shafts, and winning the top three money positions at the Michelin with
four completely different models is an incredible demonstration of the playability,
consistency and dependability of UST shafts,” says Skip Pankewich, product
developer for UST. “It was especially rewarding to see the new Frequency
Filtered putter shaft contribute to yet another win so soon after its introduction
on the pro tours.”
The first real putter shaft innovation in nearly 70 years, the new Frequency
Filtered putter shaft is the result of a joint venture between United Sports
Technologies and Balance Certified, which is well known for its Tour-proven
Pro-Balance shaft weighting system. The goal was to design a system that significantly
improved a player’s ability to perceive or ‘feel’ exactly
where ball impact occurs on the putter face. This feedback to the player results
in improved putting ability since the player quickly learns to stroke more putts
on the putter’s sweet spot.
Pankewich compares the new Frequency Filtered shafts with the performance of
a quality stereo system. “When listening to a radio, any static noise
will interfere with the sound quality, but a good stereo system filters out
the static noise and leaves only sounds that are meant to be heard. This is
similar to what happens with the Frequency Filtered putter shaft,” he
says. “There are many different types of vibrations that occur when a
putt is struck. Some of these vibrations are always there, but don’t provide
the player any useful feedback about the putt. I equate these vibrations to
static noise on a radio. The Frequency Filtered shaft filters out these ‘static
noise’ vibrations, leaving only vibrations that provide feedback about
how the putt was struck. Your feel becomes clearer.”
