PANORA, Iowa ( May 12. 2012) --Bettendorf’s Ben Peters won his first IGA Championship on Saturday at the 27th Iowa Mid-Amateur. Peters held off defending champion Jon Olson of Ankeny and 2008 champion Jon Brown of Urbandale during a fantastic afternoon for golf at Lake Panorama Golf Course in Panora.

Peters final round got off to a fast start with birdies at the first, second and fourth holes, but fellow-competitors Olson and Brown kept right on his heels. Olson birdied the first two holes as well and Brown made an eagle at the par-5 second. In fact, after the eighth hole Brown and Peters were tied for the lead and Olson was only one shot back.

Steady play on the final nine proved to be the difference for Peters. He sandwiched a birdie-bogey run on 13 and 14 with all pars while Olson and Brown shot two-over par and one-over par, respectively. Olson and Brown would share second place at 142, two shots behind Peters.

Andy Burton of Des Moines put together a terrific final round to win the Senior Division by four shots. Burton made four birdies against only two bogies for a final round 70, capturing his first victory in an IGA Championship.

Burton came into the final round tied for second with Chris Mugge of Urbandale after each shot a 1-over 73 in the opening round. They were a shot back of Joel Yunek of Mason City and all three were paired together for the final 18. Mugge and Yunek could not match Burton on Saturday, however, as they each managed rounds of 76.

Bruce Grenier of Clive tied Burton for the low round of the championship with his 70 in the final round. That propelled Grenier to a runner-up finish in the Senior Division.
