Demeo captures Havemeyer Invitational

BAYSHORE, N.Y. (May 11, 2012) -- There was no easing into the competition at the Havemeyer Invitational this week at Southward Ho in Bay Shore. The top 10 players in the qualifying round were bunched within two shots, led by medalist Matthew Finger of Darlington (N.J.) Golf Club, who shot 71. Matthew Demeo of Wind Watch Golf & Country Club defeated Greg Etimos of Island Hills, 3 and 1, to win the event.
Jay Sessa of Cherry Valley won the senior division, beating Jim Graham of Winged Foot, 4 and 2, in the final.
ABOUT THE Havemeyer Invitational
Regional event played on Southward Ho, a A.W.
Tilinghast-designed course that was bailed out by
Horace Havemeyer during the Depression era. Since
1951, the Havemeyer Invitational has attracted top
metropolitan region amateur golfers to compete at
Southward Ho in a three day event. 18
hole qualifier establishes match play contestants in
both championship and senior divisions.
