ABOUT THE Belle Haven Four-Ball

Each year, 100 two-man teams compete in the Belle Haven Four Ball - 80 in the regular division, and 20 in the senior division. Each two-man team plays better ball, stroke play, at scratch. After the second day of play, the Regular Division is cut to the low 32 teams plus ties and the Senior Division is cut to the low 8 teams plus ties.

The tournament dates back to 1949. It missed a beat in 2003 when the course was closed for renovation. In 1969, a former professional, who had not gotten his amateur status back, won the tournament. When this was discovered, the Four Ball Committee decided that there would be “No Champion.”

Over the years, tournament participants have included two British Amateur champions and one US Amateur champion. In addition, a number of past Four Ball participants have later gone on to play on the PGA Tour including George Burns, Roger Simpkins, Leonard Thompson, Webb Heinzelman, Deane Beaman and Fred Funk.
