OLS LYME, CT (May 7, 2012) -- With a 36-hole score of 4-under-par 138, Nick Cook (Tashua Knolls) and Tim Kane (Simsbury Farms) outplayed a field of forty-eight teams to win the 2012 CSGA Two Man Team Championship on Monday, May 7 at Black Hall Club in Old Lyme.

“We didn’t ham and egg too well in the morning,” said Cook, “but we got it going pretty well in the afternoon.”

The morning round was played at four-ball stroke play, and the afternoon round was played at foursomes (selected drive) stroke play.

Max Adler (Sterling Farms) and David Zeid (New Haven) held the lead after the morning round by combining for a 5-under par 66 over the challenging 6,649 yard par 71 course. Cook and Kane managed a 1-under par 70 to sit tied for 7th. Adler and Zeid returned a 75 in the afternoon to finish the tournament tied for 3rd. Brian Ahern (Wampanoag) and Scott Farrell (Black Hall) claimed runner-up honors, finishing alone in second with rounds of 67-73.

Cook and Kane’s afternoon round was particularly impressive considering the selected drive alternating shot format. Their 68 was four shots better than the next best scores of 72 from Dave Szewczul (Tunxis Plantation) and Bill Hermanson (Black Hall), and Rick Nappi and James Kulacz of Timberlin.

“Nick is unbelievably long,” said Kane, “He’s like sixty yards past everyone. I’d hit first and just try to get it in the fairway and let Nick bomb away. Most of the time we ended up using his drive, and I hit a lot of wedges today.”
