BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. (May 8, 2012) – Aaron Black, Assistant PGA Professional at Charlotte Golf Links and Amateur Conner Sock of High Point, NC are tied for the lead after turning in scores of 66 (-5) at the 88thCarolinas Open Presented by BB&T.
Both Black and Sock had strong back nine performances to finish out the first round being held at Bryan Park Golf and Conference Center in Browns Summit, NC.
Black stated, “Overall it was a good day. I started off +2 after the first eight holes and came back with a 30 on the back nine.”
Sock finished the back nine bogey free and five birdies to set him up with a share of the lead heading into the second round starting tomorrow morning.
Black and Sock are one stroke ahead of Matt Vick, Assistant PGA Professional at Pinehurst CC No. 1-5, and Steven Anderson, Assistant PGA Professional at Anderson Creek GC who finish tied at 67 (-4).
The Championship will begin its second round, tomorrow, Wednesday, May 9 at 7:30 AM. After the round’s conclusion tomorrow, the field will be cut to the low 60 scores and ties.
The 88thCarolinas Open presented by BB&T kicked off yesterday, May 7thwith its annual Pro-Am tournament benefitting the First Tee of the Triad. Teams consisting of PGA Professionals and three amateurs from throughout the Carolinas brought in approximately $8,000 in donations for the First Tee of the Triad.
