Far Hills, N.J. (May 3, 2012) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., as the host of the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open Championship. The dates of the championship are July 13-16.

“We are very happy to bring the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open Championship to Trump National Bedminster,” said USGA Vice President and Championship Committee Chairman Thomas J. O’Toole Jr. “The course has shown itself as a true examination of a player’s mettle, and it will certainly serve as a tough testing ground for the world’s best women golfers.”

“The U.S. Women’s Open is the most sought-after title in women’s golf,” said USGA Women’s Committee Chairman Martha Lang. “We are quite confident that our partners at Trump National Golf Club will provide a course truly worthy of this prestigious championship.”

The 2017 U.S. Women’s Open will be the third USGA championship conducted at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. It concurrently hosted the 2009 U.S. Junior Amateur and Girls’ Junior championships, won by Jordan Spieth and Amy Anderson respectively, on its Old and New courses.

“It is my great honor to have Trump National Golf Club Bedminster host the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open,” said Donald J. Trump, chairman and president of The Trump Organization. “We designed this course to appeal to and to challenge the greatest golfers in the world, and having the most prestigious event in women’s golf at this course makes our plans complete. I look forward to a truly memorable championship.”

The Old Course was designed by Tom Fazio and opened for play in 2004. It is routed through more than 500 acres of rolling farmland and horse pastures with numerous water hazards and demanding green complexes. Approach shots call for careful strategy, and wetlands and restored farm buildings are found throughout the course.

The New Course was designed by Tom Fazio II, nephew of Tom Fazio, and opened for play in 2008. The New Course, which runs along the outer perimeter of the Old Course, features a heathland-style design and boasts small greens and numerous elevation changes.

The U.S. Women’s Open was first conducted in 1946 and boasts an impressive list of past champions, including Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Betsy Rawls, Mickey Wright, Hollis Stacy, Amy Alcott, Meg Mallon, Annika Sorenstam, Se Ri Pak, Juli Inkster, Cristie Kerr and Paula Creamer.

The championship is open to any female professional and to female amateurs with a USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4.

Prior to 2017, the U.S. Women’s Open Championship will be played at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wis., from July 5-8, 2012; at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., from June 27-30, 2013; at Pinehurst Resort (No. 2) in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C., from June 19-22, 2014; and at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club from July 9-12, 2015. The site of the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open has not been announced.
