Notre Dame maintains lead at Big East Championship

REUNION, Fla. (April 30, 2012) -- The Notre Dame men own a seven-stroke lead after the second round of play at the 2012 BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship held at The Watson Course at Reunion Resort & Club in Reunion, Fla.

Notre Dame shot a 286 during the second round to take a seven-shot advantage over Louisville after day two. Notre Dame has a two day total of 570. Irish senior Max Scodro sits in first place individually after shooting a four under-par score of 68.

He sits at seven under-par for the tournament and holds a two stroke lead. Scodro posted a 33 on the front nine including an eagle on the par-five eighth hole. Junior Paul McNamara is tied for third place at four under-par while senior Chris Walker is in a four way tie for sixth place at even-par.

Louisville senior Justin Dorward sits in second place individually at five under par. He posted an even-par round on day two. The Cardinals are in second place with a two day total of 577. Senior Chris Buiso is tied for sixth place. St. John’s finished the second round seven shots behind Louisville. The Red Storm have a two day total of 584 entering the final round. Sophomore Ryan McCormick and freshman Dylan Crowley are part of the group that is tied for sixth place. Villanova finished the round in fourth place with a score of 585.

The Wildcats are led by junior Michael Kania who is tied for third place at four under-par. Connecticut and Georgetown are both 15 over-par for the tournament with totals of 591.

Georgetown senior Taylor Hall is alone in fifth place at three under-par. Connecticut senior Matt Carroll is in 10th place at one over-par. Seton Hall ended the day in seventh place. The Pirates have a two day total of 595, 19 over-par. Marquette is five shots behind with a 600 total and sit in eight place heading into the final round. DePaul and USF are tied for ninth with two day totals of 605, Cincinnati and Rutgers are tied for 11th place at 618. Third round action begins Tuesday at 8 a.m. Eastern.
