GREENSBORO, Ga. (April 27, 2012) -- The opening round of the 41st annual Georgia Four-Ball Championship is in the books and the duo of Russ Cothern of Woodstock and Randall White of Canton fired a bogey-free 9-under-par 63 to take the lead at Harbor Club in Greensboro.
Two strokes back of the leaders are two teams tied at 7-under-par 65: Jack Hall of Sea Island and Danny Nelson of Savannah, and Walter Hagan III and Scott Weeks, both of Savannah. Hall and Nelson teamed up to win the Georgia Four-Ball Championship in 2005 when it was held at Georgia National Golf Club in McDonough.
The defending champions, Jason Fober of Fortson and Cason Hammock of Columbus, finished round one at even-par 72.
The Georgia Four-Ball Championship was open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers. The field consists of 80 teams with the lowest USGA Handicap Indexes and the format is 54 holes of four-ball stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 40 teams and ties after 36 holes.
