ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (October 14, 2005)— Hawaiian Bank Vongvanij of the IMG/Leadbetter Academy in Bradenton, FL, and Thomas Murray of Orange Park, FL, a recent FSGA Match play finalist and US Amateur contestant, lead a strong field of players after the first round of the 2005 St. Augustine Amateur. Each shot a round of 69 in breezy conditions at the St Johns Golf Club in St Augustine, FL.

Vongvanij combined 3 birdies and 2 bogies for his one under par round. Murray started unevenly and was 4 over after five holes but finished strong with 3 birdies and an eagle.

Trailing but not far back are last years 3rd place finisher Robert Parker of Sanford, FL (70) and defending champion Tyler Brown of Ponte Vedra, FL (71).

The field is tightly bunched with 28 players within 6 shots of the lead. Winning the Long Drive contest following play with a blast of 349 yards was Jacob Richards of Melbourne, FL.

Play continues tomorrow with the final round on Sunday. The tournament is a national event for better amateur and collegiate players. Starting times are 8am to 10am daily. The public is invited at no charge.
