EL PASO, TX (October 9, 2005) -- The Vista Hills CC duo of Kim Smith and David Moore of Vista Hills claimed their first Sun Country Amateur Senior Four Ball title Sunday at Vista Hills Country Club. 36-holes wasn’t enough. The pair were tied with defending champions Gary Jeffries of Rio Mimbres GC in Deming and Barry McClure of Picacho Hills CC following final round action.
Both teams finished regulation play at 6-under par 138, carding similar scores of 71 Sunday and 67 Sunday. Players also endured a delayed start because of thundershowers, then a 30-minute delay during Sunday’s action.
In the playoff, both teams earned birdies on the par 5, first hole, then pars on the par 5 18th hole. Players went to number 1 again, when Smith closed things out, sinking a 10-foot birdie putt. Both McClure and Jeffries had birdie efforts to extend the playoff, but the putts just didn’t drop.
Teams also had the option of competing in a net flight. Earning the net flight crown were Duke Ward and Dave Van Horn of Apache Mesa GC, finishing with a total of 125.
